An exploration into getting back to nature.
Looking to live, play, and build in harmony with the forest.

So what have we been up to .....  We bought a little slice of forest to call our own... One of the best things about owning land is taking the time to get to know it.  Eventually we will build a house, but in the mean time, we are enjoying camping and learning about our forest.

Here are a few pictures from our camping adventures and the land through the seasons. Occasionally we are even able to capture a picture of an animal that inhabitants our woods, although they are usually moving a bit fast for photography.

Projects

Setting up a permanent camp site provides the luxury of adding a few nice to haves when out in the woods.  The first step in our camp site was building a shed.  The shed contains a composting toilet while also providing storage.

Tent & platform

I have a small backpacking tent but its nothing compares to sleeping in a nice large canvas tent.

We have a healthy forest that may have been used for grazing animals long ago.  We have been having a lot of fun exploring.  Each visit a new discovery is found whether it is a rock outcropping, a change in light due to the season or finding a new tree type.

Play

No camp would be complete without a few toys to pass the time.

I have always loved maps and topography.  It is as much art as something extremely functional.  One of our projects has been to create a detailed elevation map of our land.  This will help in siting the house but also be just really fun to have.

Bridge

A great feature of the property is a seasonal stream.   During dry spells the water will stop running, but in the spring, we have a beautiful babbling brook that makes it a little difficult to explore a section of the property.  To make crossing a little easier we have started to plan a bridge.
